Backstory (Summary Mode)

Melissa was born in Londane to a unicorn stallion and cat, which resulted in her cat-pony hybrid form. Being a hybrid, they had no idea how long she'd live or how much she even ages... so she never kept track. Though, doctors estimate she is around 20 in pony years. One night while she was around 16, her parents were attacked in a gang fight and died from their injuries a few days later. Melissa then moved to Canterlot to get away from the gangs, thinking they'd be after her next.

Once in Canterlot, she took up mundane jobs here and there to get by... even working for Rarity at some point at her boutique there. She ended up quitting all of those jobs, mostly due to a lack of interest or bullying done to her. If she wasn't at a job, she was roaming the streets at night. One particular night after quitting her final job, she came upon a filly being stalked by a suspicious pony. She ended up escorting the filly home to make sure nothing happened to her. She thought nothing of the task until Princess Luna showed up at her door a couple of nights later. Word had spread at Princess Celestia's School For Gifted Unicorns about the kitty that saved the filly from being fillynapped... it eventually got to the Royal Sisters themselves and so they wanted to reward her.
Luna offered Melissa a nightly task of wandering the streets of a given town and talk to/comfort any creature that may be kept up at night for any reason. Melissa was then officially deemed a Night Walker for this task, and given a handkerchief with a black gem on it. This would allow her to use magic that a unicorn can tap into. She eventually learned to summon wings with the gem to make her job a bit easier to cover more ground.

To this day, she comforts any creature in distress about school, personal issues, or even to the point of confronting those that may harm someone. For a few nights in a row, she was assigned to go back home to Londane. One of these nights was when she met Victor for the first time. While reluctant to get involved in gang activity again, she did fend off Victor from getting killed by opposing gang members. Later on, she even saved Victor from doing something he could've regretted. From that day onward, she saw him more often and grew affectionate towards him... to the point that they became boyfriend and girlfriend.

Something that Melissa still struggles with are nightmares from gang encounters as a child. They still haunt her in her sleep so she ends up twitching and whimpering in her sleep. Once comfort is given to her via hugs or snuggling, she usually calms right down.
